This is a picture book of bird song. Different birds appear spread by spread creating a building cacophony— until the ending displays a symphony of glorious bird words!
Stacy Innerst’s overflowing paintings of color and texture add to this stunning picture book. The reader is absorbed by the sounds the bird words create making it both a visual, and audible masterpiece. (Notice the serious and quiet hawk in the illo below, though. It comes halfway through the book and feels like a musical pause.)
At the end of the book are some more ‘realistic’ depictions of the birds (although they give side eyes and tiny smirks) and some facts about each member of ‘the cast.’
Fun, informative, and visually stunning, this book will create lots of conversations. It will engage both kids and adults by challenging them to “listen” and sing along with the bird song they hear.
