Not all my friends are picture book fanatics. But one of them is and it’s so fun when we find book love in common and mention it in casual conversation. I was grateful when she reminded me of VERY GOOD HATS the other day so that I could post about this very good book written by Emma Straub and illustrated by Blanca Gómez.
What is a hat? You might believe that it’s a thing you buy at a hat store and wear on your head, but there are a lot of things that can be hats.
With that introduction, Emma Straub and Blanca Gómez introduce us to a plethora of things that can be hats.
Funny things like cats, chewed-up gum, and tortellini.
Did you know that grandparents usually have the best hats?
And if you are in an airplane, then a cloud might be your hat!
I adore this whimsical and witty romp through creativity and imagination. Thinking outside the box, or, hat, so to speak. Coming up with innovative ways to use something, or to see something, or to define something is creativity thinking.
I’m certain kids will have an absolute blast coming up with their own hatty inventions. I’d love to hear them!

Hi Vijaya, it’s such a kid-friendly book (which is kind of important?). Fun, funny, engaging, and with an overlying theme of being creative and seeing things uniquely. Love it!
