The Baby Who Stayed Awake Forever by Sandra Salsbury

Hello, Picture Book Builders people.

I have a new name and that name is Gam-Gam.

Back in February, my daughter had TWO babies. (She has always been an overachiever.)

Of course, I have been giving those adorable baby boys lots of books. This is the latest one–The Baby Who Stayed Awake FOREVER by Sandra Salsbury.

Not only is it a Junior Library Guild Selection, it has received some excellent reviews.

“Punchy, silly, and likely to be a favorite.”—Kirkus

“Chilling. . . . Caretakers and new sibs will find plenty of comic comfort and validation in these pages.”—Publishers Weekly

Nice, huh?

These are just five of the reasons why I love this book:

  1. The word ‘binky’ is used MANY times, and ‘binky’ is seriously one of the best words in the whole world.
  2. It’s relatable. All the people who have ever encountered a sleepless night with a baby will feel this book was written especially for them.
  3. This book has VOICE. And it’s hilarious.
  4. It includes an unexpected cranky Mr. Neighbor.
  5. The author’s note ends with this delightful line: “The Baby Who Stayed Awake FOREVER was written using the Notes app while huddled in the corner of a nursery.”

Please go get this book–especially if you have a newborn in the house or know someone who is about ready to join the club. This book will give you or that new parent in your life some excellent entertainment. But be prepared…
