Greta and the Giants

Last week I randomly selected ten fresh, hot-off-the-presses picture books from my library’s “New Books” cart. My plan was to feature my favorite in this month’s post. And the winner is . . . Greta and the Giants (by Zoe Tucker, illustrated by Zoe Persico)!

This sweet, fictional story begins by introducing Greta, a girl who lives in a beautiful forest.

But soon Giants came and began ruining the forest, which endangered all the animals that lived there. So Greta decided to take a stand.

Soon, a boy joined her her cause.

Then many others joined the fight against the Giants. Until finally the Giants listened and decided to change their ways. And the forest returned to its beautiful state.

By now, you’ve probably figured out the real-life inspiration for this tale (hence the subtitle, “Inspired by Greta Thunberg’s Stand to Save the World.”)

What I love about this book:

  • The illustrations are incredibly colorful and striking.
  • The story demonstrates the power of one person taking a stand, and the huge impact of many when people work together.
  • This important message is conveyed in a straightforward, yet compelling way that children can easily understand.
  • The back matter pages share information about climate change and how readers can help.
  • The book was printed in the U.S. on recycled paper.
  • For each book purchase, 3% of the cover price is donated to 350.org, an organization working to help the environment.

Enjoy!
